The travelling legend of many a miracle, the diva of city streets and squares, Ana Desetnica is coming to town from 2 to 7 July while on the 22nd street theatre tour around Slovenia! Accompanied by artists from 11 countries (Slovenia, Spain, Austria, Tunisia, Columbia, Belgium, Ghana, Ireland, Great Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands), it’s going to visit 11 towns: Kamnik, Ankaran, Šoštanj, Nova Gorica, Ljubljana, Krško, Novo mesto, Sežana, Celje, Škofja Loka, and Ilirska Bistrica.
Ana Desetnica’s long-time faithful friends probably wonder: What about Maribor?! Unfortunately, Narodni dom Maribor – the event organizer – hasn’t found common ground with the city authorities about the new Ana Desetnica concept in Lent district, which included a circus tent at the festival location.
The idea is that Ana Desetnica should become a sort of a big at-home party with the official programme, but also with all of you, our dear visitors! Ana Desetnica says PEOPLE TO PEOPLE*! We’re further developing the living room concept (in Ljubljana since 2017) – trying to make the public space homely and cosy with chairs, armchairs, coffee tables, and other pieces of furniture in order to create snug spaces in Slovenska street once again. However, lounging and lazing about is not going to be the only thing going on as we intend to fill the streets with our diverse programme. Storytellers, poets, musicians, and chat lovers are going to warm you up: In case you feel the need to spice up the happening yourself – you’re more than welcome to do so! So, please – join us in the intimacy of our living room to crack a joke, read poetry from the heart, sing a song or tell a good story.
This summer, the living room concept is also going to invigorate artistic programmes and offer nice and cosy places for mingling in Nova Gorica and Novo mesto.
Our programme this year has so many highlights that it would be impossible to name all of them right now. And here are a few hints: The 4-day festival is going to be fired up with the performance Oni by Ada Kogovšek and Kazina dancers (SLO). Several towns are going to be attacked by the high-in-the-air spectacle Icarus performed by the Southpaw Dance Collective (GB). Some towns are going to host the romantic story Springtime (NLD), others the circus group Vaiven (ESP) with superb stunts on their unique construction. But don’t panic – Ana Desetnica 2019 is going to endure safety with Two Policewomen (ESP).
For the third year in a row, the International Award of Excellence is going to be presented to the best performance by international artists – urbANA ljubljANA 2019. The winner is going to be chosen by an expert jury as well as a member of the audience, a so-called voice of the people.
But before Ana Desetnica 2019 there’s going to be a 12-day youth exchange i. e. international interdisciplinary explorational workshop PLACE yourSELF inTO public SPACE 2. Young people from Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia are going to join our intensive and practical workshops (65 pedagogical hours) and explore the public space through street theatre, contemporary circus, audiovisual art, and music. Participants are going to get the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience, exchange ideas and tools as well as create a performance in the public space and present it at the festival.
