When, in the spring of 2020, due to the epidemic of the COVID-19 virus, the world stopped, so to speak, in an instant, and we were unexpectedly and suddenly cut off from the audience, we began to look for a way to stay in live contact with people and to enable them to have direct contact with the theater – despite the restrictions and limitations of public life.
We have started an initiative Ana under your window, that aimed to support artists and the community in times of crisis and offered a new safe format of events: culture was brought to the community, to the courtyards of apartment buildings, where residents became spectators through their windows and on balconies. We were also visiting nursing homes and hospitals.
The project not only made culture accessible during quarantine – and long term, as is seems the restrictions might remain for some time – but also fostered a sense of unity and community. And what’s the most important, we draw smiles on people’s faces!
From 16 April to 1 July 2020, we carried out 24 artistic interventions in Ljubljana, the Goriška region and the Vipava region, and wherever we went, people welcomed us with enthusiasm.
Based on this experience, in 2021 we started to develop a more extensive project of the neighborhood theater Art Yard, which is specific in that it brings cultural and artistic content to people literally on the doorstep.
The project was carried out under the honorary patronage of the Slovenian President.
