ŠUGLA PLUS

Fusion of artistic education and urban space research

The intergenerational programme ŠUGLA PLUS will take place from autumn to spring in three series of weekly trainings and intensive weekend modules – in city streets, squares and parks, as well as in more specific urban spaces such as residential courtyards and other unconventional locations open to the public.

Participants will explore the potential of these spaces for artistic creation and presentation, thereby enhancing their performance skills and gaining experiences. Based on these experiences, they will develop new or different artistic approaches, creative practices, and/or methods of communication and interaction with people in these spaces if needed.

We have invited Slovene and internationally recognized artists and educators who have either long-term experience working in public spaces or are specialized in stage arts. Participants will also have access to our multichannel live streaming tool SIMS, which allows for real-time analysis and consequently improves, upgrades, and disseminates the educational-research-creative process.

The uniqueness and advantage of the ŠUGLA PLUS programme, intended for established street artists and creators from other performance art fields of diverse ages as well as (yet) unestablished artists with some public performance experience, is that it enables/ensures:

  • intergenerational collaboration;
  • faster progress for less experienced participants;
  • higher level/greater quality of each performance or artistic presentation (rehearsals, interventions, works in progress) in specific public spaces, thereby providing a higher quality interaction with art for (passing) viewers;
  • continuous training in a public space performance (essential for the artist’s development);
  • ongoing development of skills for using public spaces as a ”stage” (crucial for the field’s advancement);
  • development and exploration of new performative methods, tools, techniques, practices, and/or genres for creating and performing in specific urban spaces and for artistic interaction/communication with people in these spaces.
