izPOSTAVI se V javni PROSTOR

Mednarodna interdisciplinarna raziskovalna delavnica

Ljubljana,

29. junij-8.julij 2018

International interdisciplinary research workshop PLACE yourSELF inTO public SPACE is a 10-day training programme for young people, aged from 18 to 29, who are amateurs or semi-professionals in the field of various art forms (performative and visual art, music, intermedia etc.).

The programme consists of four two-day workshops and offers 17 participants from Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia a unique opportunity for an exchange of ideas, knowledge and tools to discover and develop innovative art techniques in the public space. The participants explored public space through the eyes of the circus, urban set design, street theatre and audio-visual art, and use it for their own artistic expression.

Project organizer: Ana Monro Theater. Project coordinator: Tea Vidmar. Project partners: Cirkorama (CRO), Cirkusfera (SRB) in CirkoBalkana (CRO/SRB). The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, Slovenian Institute for the Development of Youth Mobility MOVIT, and the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities (JSKD).

Raziskovalni del bo potekal na festivalskem prizorišču, kjer bodo udeleženci ob pomoči mentorja spoznavali zakonitosti javnega prostora in iskali kreativne načine umeščanja lastnega umetniškega izraza vanj.

CIRKUS (30.6. in 1.7.)

Delavnica bo potekala v pravem cirkuškem šotoru, v katerem bodo udeleženci spoznavali in preizkušali paleto različnih cirkuških veščin (razvoj fizične pripravljenosti, osvajanje veščin manipuliranja s predmetom, talne in zračne akrobacije, klovn, hodulje, slackline, odkrivanje lastnega načina uporabe cirkuških rekvizitov) pod mentorstvom umetnikov in umetniške iniciative CirkoBalkana. http://www.cirkobalkana.org/hr/

The topic of the workshops is a stranger in town which may be reflected personally by the young people, should they have the experience of feeling like a stranger in (their own) town, yet it evokes a broad social issue of cultural isolation, experienced by migrants and minority groups. The aim of the programme is to form a group of young people and encourage them to exchange thoughts, opinions and feelings about themselves as individuals in the modern society, and find a way to express similar and different opinions through art whilst using the public space as a means of expression, whereas circus, street theatre, urban set design and video production skills become tools for an artistic expression.

The workshops are divided into a technical, research and experimental part. In the technical part, the teachers will present participants with basic technical skills, tools and methods of the respective art forms. The research takes place at the festival, and participants, assisted by a teacher, find out about the laws of the public space, searching for creative ways of incorporating their own artistic expression. In the experimental part, participants are exploring the point where the four art techniques meet, whilst trying to form connections among the art forms in order to enrich their own techniques.

URBAN SET DESIGN (30 June and 1 July)

The workshop reveals the existing forms of DIY/pop-up/tactical urbanism and the possibility of using it based on the experiences from the Ana Desetnica Festival. The workshop is also about understanding the urban public space and interfering with it from the perspective of street theatre as well as the residents. An exploration of urban spaces and a potential fine-art intervention focus on the festival locations and in-between spaces. Participants have the opportunity to make their own research and apply their new skills (as a working process). Ideally, participants should have basic fine-art knowledge and be equipped with a smartphone, possibly a personal computer, too. The workshop is conducted by an intermedia artist, set designer and producer Irena Pivka. http://www.irenapivka.si/

Saturday, 30 June

10 am−1 pm: A presentation of the workshop, making a work plan (designing a miniature urban set in Ljubljana) and a presentation of the urban set design at Ana Desetnica.

4 pm−6 pm: Participants choose a location independently (among the festival locations), and plan a pop-up fine-art intervention.

Sunday, 1 July

10 am−1 pm: A presentation of ideas by the participants, and group mentorship.

4 pm−6 pm: An independent development of a research, assigning and presenting a project and an evaluation at the locations.

CIRCUS (2 and 3 July)

The workshop takes place in a real circus tent where participants get to know and try out a range of circus skills (increasing physical stamina, learning skills and object manipulation, acrobatic stunts on the floor and in the air, clown tricks, stilts, slackline, discovering a personal way of using circus props) under the mentorship of artists and the artistic initiative CirkoBalkana. http://www.cirkobalkana.org/hr/

Monday, 2 July

10 am−1 pm: Body warm-up and circuit training.

4 pm−6 pm: A more independent research of new tools (choosing a discipline).

Tuesday, 3 July

4 pm−6 pm: A test presentation of short circus sequences in the street.

STREET THEATRE (4 and 5 July)

Participants gain practical knowledge about character development techniques which is how an artist communicates with the audiences and passers-by. Participants learn how to improvise and search for answers to why, how and what they wish to express/say with their acting and interaction. The workshops take place at the in-between festival locations, devoted to theatre experimentation, research of a dramaturgical space, how to feel or influence the dynamics of urban space and the inhabitants. The workshop is conducted by the Spanish actor and director Sergi Estebanell. https://sergiestebanell.com/
